Beginning Open Chords Three
Article Tags: pdf chord beginner easy
This lesson focuses on the D chord and some notes and rests. The top line introduces the D chord. I go for a fingering that you usually don't see in beginner resources, open D string, second finger on the second fret G string, third finger on the third fret B string, and first finger on the second fret high E string. The reason is this fingering helps when switching to other types of D chord, like in the song Sweet Child O' Mine. Also in the first line are half rests. So the second and third measures the chord rings for two then use your right hand to mute then string so nothing rings for two beats.

The second line reinforces the D chord and half rests with a familiar chord progression.

The third line introduces quarter rests. Quarter rests get one beat. So on the entire line, let the chord ring for one beat, then mute the string for one beat. Go for an even tempo where notes and rests are equal.
