Beginning Guitar Chords One
Happy New Year! I picked up a student that's brand new to guitar. Unless there's a specific gaol in mind, I typically start with chords and note reading. To suppliment other resources I made a series of documents to help the cause.
Link (http://www.walzguitar.com/resources/pdf/WalzGuitar-Beginner-Chords-1.pdf) These are meant for a teacher to use with a student. This sheet uses the E and G chords. The reason is those two chords use all six strings, so you only need to focus on your fret hand to start. The chord frames show which left hand fingers to use. When switching between chords notice that your fingers make a sort of triangle shape. Use the index (1) finger as a point of reference for the chord shapes. In other words, put that finger down first. Work on teaching your fingers the chord shapes. The objective is to learn the E and G chords and to learn whole, half, and quarter notes. The first line shows whole notes. Tap your foot and count 1, 2, 3, 4 repeatedly. On 1 strum the chord and let it ring. On the next one, go to the next chord. A whole note rings the whole measure or bar. The second line uses half notes instead of whole notes. You would strum every two beats. So: 1 strum, 2, 3 strum, 4, 1 next chord strum, 2, 3 strum, 4, etc. The third line uses quarter and half notes. Quarter notes get one beat. The point of having the half note at the end of each bar is give you a little time to prepare for the chord change. The rhythm: 1 strum, 2 strum, 3 strum, 4, 1 next chord strum, 2 strum, 3 strum, 4, etc. Added on: 2009 01 05
